Keeping your Options Open
Gone are the days when individuals worked at the same company and retired comfortably. The truth is staying in a company too long can work against you. Even staying in one position too long can hurt the long-term trajectory of your career. Continuously keeping your options open and willing to listen to different opportunities is part of the career development process.
.
Things You Should Always Do
Keep Your Skills Sharp – While a formal program (college, certifications, & designations) is a valid option, gaining knowledge does not have to be so structured. This could be as simple as reading blogs/books, listening to podcasts, and taking advantage of reasonably priced online resources. Try to focus on gaining skills people are willing to pay a premium.
.
Keep Your Resume Updated – This may seem like a no-brainer, but when was the last time you gave your resume a read-through? Could there be some outdated language and skills that are no longer relevant in the job market? Keeping an up-to-date copy of your resume on file and reviewing it twice a year should prepare you to take advantage of different opportunities.
.
Networking – The worse time to look for a connection is when you need them. Think of when your A/C or plumbing went out, and you did not have ‘guy’ or ‘gale’ on call to help you out. Consider networking in the same light. Try to anticipate individuals you will need in your current and future endeavors and start seeking them today.
.
Apply to 4 Roles a Year – A sure way of seeing if your skill sets are still in demand is just applying for different positions and seeing what happens. You can even apply for roles that are a level above where you currently sit. Imagine applying for a dream job, and they actually say you are the exact person we are looking to hire. Applying for different roles will also give you a point of reference for future salary negations.
.
Summary
Job-hunting is like networking, we know we should do it, but most do not like it. Applying for a role forces us to put ourselves out there to be examined and judged. I advise you to take your career into your own hands. You cannot lose creating wealth for yourself following the steps above.

While working with clients, Randall realized there was a missing process that individuals were not performing when choosing to use their money. Motivated to fill this gap, Randall developed three models to ‘Hack The System’ and allow individuals to Create Your Own System (CYOS). Randall hopes effectively using these models will help individuals identify the best moral and ethical use of their money.
